The phone rings. It’s Gal, a dear friend and brother from the unit. It was about a song that he wrote long ago. It had been sitting in his drawer for years. He asked me if we would sing it. ‘Of course, brother’.
I read the words and it threw me right back there. And I understood- we are all still there. The years go by and the memories don’t fade. The smells, the images, the sounds.
The war. The Second Lebanon war.
The memories of friends who died. This song was written in memory of our friend Refael Moskal, Fani. And through his memory, it all comes back and surfaces again.
