Ester Rada grew up in Kiryat Arba into a religious family of Ethiopian Jews. After her parents divorced when she was a kid, she moved to Netanya, where she was exposed to funk and rap music for the first time. Her 2014 hit Nanu Nay was the first song in Amharic to be in the top 10 of the Israeli radio charts.
