Physics met history when scientists discovered that they could detect the earth`s magnetic field on the 9th of Av, 586 BCE using the archeological artifacts that were present at the moment of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians.

Described by Albert Einstein as one of the five great mysteries of physics, fluctuations in the earth`s magnetic field are “recorded” on objects such as pottery shards, bricks, roof tiles and furnaces, enabling researchers to calculate the exact day of the destruction. The interdisciplinary study, recently published in the scientific journal PLOS , provides scientific corroboration for the Biblical record of the destruction of Jerusalem..
