So God tells Moses to send one from each of the 12 tribes of Israel to scout the land of Canaan. Among the scouts were Caleb and Joshua. They enter the land and cut down a branch with a huge cluster of grapes as well as some pomegranates and figs.
They report to Moses that the land is very good. 10 of the spies claim there are giants in the land while Joshua and Caleb agree that it’s no big deal. The people freak out and try to stone the leaders when all of a sudden God shows up and complains about the people to Moses.
God threatens to strike them with pestilence. But instead God pardons them and commands them to wander for 40 years.
After being commanded to go back into the wilderness a small group decide to take on the land without God. They fail
