Shalom and welcome to the Parsha in 60 seconds

Today’s portion is from Genesis 44:18–47:27 it is called Va’yigash which means “then he drew near”

Judah pleaded desperately with Joseph, explaining that their father would die of heartbreak if Benjamin did not return. Judah begged Joseph to allow Benjamin to go free and take Judah in his place. Jacob was overcome by emotions and ordered everyone but his brothers to leave the room.

Joseph then burst into tears and explained that he was Joseph their brother. It was beyond a hallmark moment. In recounting the story Joseph explained it was all God’s orchestration to use Joseph to save everyone. His dreams had come true. The whole family moved to Egypt. Jacob was reunited with Joseph. upon arrival to Egypt Pharaoh gave them the best land. They became keepers of the herds of Egypt. Jacob met Pharaoh and blessed him.

While the famine was still in full swing Joseph was able to purchase all the land, cattle, and bond servants of Egypt for the pharaoh.

Israel lived in Egypt, in the land of Goshen, accumulated possessions, and was fruitful and multiplied.

And that is Va’yigash in 60 seconds.
