Today’s journey is to Tel el-Ful, a hilltop in the East Jerusalem on the outskirts of the Pisgat Ze’ev and Shuafat neighbourhoods. This hill hosts a long and eventful history, including a large unfinished palace built by King Hussein under Jordan which was abandoned when Israel captured the East part of the city in 1967.
Many archaeologists also believe this to be the very site of the biblical Gibeah (גבעה) where the “Pilegesh on the Givah” story from the book of Judges takes place. Later on, it is believed that the first king of Israel, Saul, also ruled from here.
