A painfully realistic depiction of the destruction of Jerusalem. The fast of Tisha Be’Av commemorates the destruction of the Temple, but the events preceding the Babylonian destruction in 586 BCE are less well known. This film follows the Babylonian siege and the ensuing destruction of the city, according to the Biblical accounts and archaeological finds. Breathtaking simulations of the Babylonian siege, the breaching of the city walls with battering rams, barrages of arrows, King Zedekiah’s flight in the dark of night, and the destruction and devastation wreaked by the Babylonians on the city illustrate dramatically the catastrophic events in Jerusalem at the end of the First Temple period.
