We’re heading back to the bitter days of the late 1980s and getting to grips with the difficult period of the First Intifada. Lasting from 1987 to 1993, this particular Palestinian uprising – thankfully – lacked the horrific bloodshed and loss of life of the uprising that began in the year 2000. Nevertheless, it was a watershed event that changed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict forever. In this video, we get to grips with exactly what’s meant by the term “Intifada.” We discuss why the uprising broke out, how it evolved and how it benefited the Palestinian cause. We also examine how it cast Israel into the role of the aggressor – an unwanted role the tiny country can’t seem to shrug off. This isn’t an easy video to watch, and it raises complicated subjects, but as usual at UNPACKED, we don’t shy away from the difficult subjects – or the difficult questions. What do you think?
