Pastor Martin Niemöller, born on this day in 1892, was imprisoned for leading a clergy opposition to the Nazis. One of the first Germans to talk about compliance in the Holocaust, he is best known for his poem ‘First they came for…,’ a poem about compassion and humanity during a time of hate and terror.
