In biblical times, the water libations at Jerusalem’s Shiloach Pool were among the highlights of the Sukkot Temple service. A group of people in Jerusalem now get together every year to reenact the service.

The Shiloach Pool is at the foot of the pilgrimage road that runs through the City of David to the Temple Mount. The service is referred to in the classic Israeli song “Mayim, Mayim”, with lyrics that come directly from the Book of Isaiah (chapter 12, verse 3):

“With joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.”
